The inverter receives the energy generated by the panels and transforms the DC power to Alternating Current (AC) power. The AC generated is like the energy received from the Utility Grid.

The AC power travels to the breaker panel box or the electrical service panel where it is then distributed to the home.

The excess power created when your home is not using electricity is sent to the grid through the electrical meter. This causes your meter to spin backward and gives you credit toward your utility account.

You will use energy from the utility company at night when your solar system is not generating power, or when your power usage exceeds that being generated by your solar system. This removes the need for a battery bank.
Over the course of the year, the utility company tracks how much energy is put onto the grid through your smart meter. Excess power remaining from your energy consumption is credited to your account.
